How to track FBA sales velocity and plan restocking

What sales velocity measures

Sales velocity is how many units your product sells per day. It is the denominator behind days of cover, the driver of reorder timing, and the reason two SKUs with the same stock level need completely different restock plans.

Why the window matters: 30 / 60 / 90

A single week of data is noise. A single month can be distorted by a promotion or a stockout. The most reliable picture comes from comparing three windows:

• 30-day velocity — short-term trend; the most sensitive signal for immediate restock decisions.
• 60-day velocity — medium-term trend; smooths out one-off spikes.
• 90-day velocity — long-term baseline; dampens seasonal and promotional swings.

When the three agree, you have a trustworthy rate. When they diverge — a fast 30-day against a flat 90-day — you know something changed recently and need to investigate.

The right data makes the number accurate

Not all "sales" data is equal. Order data records when a customer placed an order; fulfillment data records when inventory actually shipped out of the fulfillment center. For inventory planning, the number that matters is actual units shipped out — because that is what physically drains your stock.
